Discover local Afghani gems
Steeped in tradition and a crossroad for many cultures, the cuisine of Afghanistan is an interesting consequence of the many traders over many generations. This land-locked country is where trade routes of Europe, China, India and the Middle East crossed paths. With this blend of travellers came all the flavours, ingredients and cooking techniques of their respective countries. Throw in the rough landscapes and harsh climate into the mix, and Afghani cuisine is unique, with hospitality at its core.
The main influences of Afghani cuisine are from India, Iran and Mongolia. Despite the use of many spices, Afghani food is neither too spicy nor too hot. If you are in the mood for some flavoursome, exotic dishes, look no further than Afghani cuisine!

Popular dishes
Kabuli Palaw
Kabuli Palaw is the popular National Dish of Afghanistan, with steamed Basmati Rice infused with powerful flavours from succulent lamb, lentils, raisins, carrots, onions, almonds and whole spices. Palaw is featured in many rice dishes using a rich variety of meat, stock and herbs which give rise to many fabulous flavours, aromas and colours that the rice dishes are often named after. For example, Zamarod Palaw (aka Emerald Palaw) which introduces Spinach just before the baking process, and hence the green Emerald name (be sure to use our gem of a Menulog app when ordering).
Kofta Kebab
Another Afghan must-try is Kofta Kebab which is a Finely-Ground Beef & Lamb mixture laced with fresh Parsley, Onions, Garlic and Exotic Spices. (Don’t forget to order it through your not-so-exotic Just Eat app.) Afghan Kebabs are usually served with Naan or Basmati Rice and sprinkled with Sour Grapes and Sumac, a tangy-tarty-lemony-zingy-reddy-purpley Middle Eastern Spice. Other popular meats include Lamb Chop, Ribs and Chicken, all of which are found in better restaurants. Chapli Kebab is another minced kebab much-loved across Afghan and Pakistani Cuisine with roots from the Mogul Empire. These highly-spiced, ground Beef or Mutton Patties are often called Peshawari Kebabs as they originate from Peshawar in northwest Pakistan. (Oh, they also originate from the Menulog app).
